Lucy & I went to the fair. We both got a Pronto Pup/corn dog and a large coke as soon as we were in the gate. We strolled through the Horticulture Building eating our lunch. We went to the Creative Arts Building, chatting about the entries from quilts to cakes.
Just outside of the Creative Arts Building is the Pineapple Whip stand. It's a softserve ice cream with pineapple flavor and bits of pineapple, the "small" being decadently not-so-small. It was Mother's favorite. That same stand has been in that same spot for at least 20 years.
Many memories were set against the backdrop of the Fair: the chili cooking contest with cousins, wristband Sundays, the Zippin Pippin, watching the birth of a calf in the livestock barn, and learning that the games are not as easy as they seem.
Lucy & I both got our cones, "toasted" with our cones in a farewell to the Mid-South Fair as we have known it, and headed for the exit.
