Last year was a year for realignments. So I shifted many things, not the least of which was my decision to buy nothing for myself for an entire year. No impulse or bargain purchases, which are my downfall. No replacing nappy sweaters or fraying shoes. No "special event" outfits - including our Goldsmith's reunion and Trae's graduation. Things was my touchpoint for the year. Too many things because I have every thing I need.
It was very freeing to run into Target for dog food and not be tempted by the cute beach bags, of which we have several ranging from sandproof to mesh, or to be distracted by the 75% off rack at Dillard's when I'm really shopping for my mother-in-law. In meditation, you are to focus on the present, which also factored into my year of buying nothing. For me, that translated into accepting and using the things that I presently possess.
Learning to use what I have and to appreciate it. Learning to accept what I have and be grateful. Focusing on gratitude, the now, and the blessings that are present.
