...is the enduring. The beautiful enduring.
This is the last line in The Mermaid Chair. It speaks of married life, and of realizing what makes a commitment. It is the mundane, day-in-day-out, spaghetti-on-Thursdays-kind-of-life that we build with our spouse.
The past three weeks in my life has been dominated by a milestone anniversary and a pathetic dissolution.
It is "the beautiful enduring" that creates the milestones. Otherwise, it is only enduring.
